The Archdiocese of Córdoba ( Latin : Archidioecesis Cordubensis in Argentina , Spanish : Arquidiócesis de Córdoba ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Córdoba in Argentina .

history

Under Pope Pius V , the diocese of Cordoba (Tucumán) was founded on May 10, 1570 from the diocese of Santiago de Chile . The first bishop was the Spanish Franciscan Jerónimo Albornoz (1530–1574). In 1806 the Diocese of Salta , archbishopric since 1934, was spun off; 1926 the Vicariate of San Juan de Cuyo , diocese since 1834 / archbishopric since 1934. On April 20, 1934, Pope Pius XI. the elevation to the archbishopric , the first archbishop was Fermín Emilio Lafitte (1888-1959). The suffragan diocese of Cruz del Eje (1963), diocese of San Francisco (1961), diocese of Villa de la Concepción del Río Cuarto (1934), diocese of Villa María (1957) and the territorial prelature Deán Funes (1980).
