The Archdiocese of Diamantina ( Latin Archidioecesis Adamantina , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Diamantina ) is in Brazil located Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Diamantina in the state of Minas Gerais .

history

The diocese Diamantina was on June 6, 1854 by Pope Pius IX. built with the papal bull Gravissimum sollicitudinis from cessions of territory of the diocese of Mariana and subordinated to the archbishopric of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro as a suffragan diocese. On May 1, 1906, the Diocese of Diamantina was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mariana as a suffragan. The Diocese of Diamantina gave up on December 10, 1910 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Montes Claros . Another assignment of territory took place on August 25, 1913 to establish the Araçuaí diocese .

On June 28, 1917, the Diocese of Diamantina was raised to the Archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Diamantina gave up parts of its territory several times in its history to establish new dioceses.
