The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton ( Latin Archidioecesis Edmontonensis , English Archdiocese of Edmonton ) is a in Canada situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Edmonton .

history

The Archdiocese of Edmonton was on September 22, 1871 by Pope Pius IX. from the cession of territory by the diocese of Saint-Boniface established as the diocese of Saint Albert . The diocese of Saint Albert gave on November 30, 1912 parts of its territory to establish the diocese of Calgary .

On November 30, 1912, the diocese of Saint Albert was raised to an archdiocese by Pope Pius X and renamed the Archdiocese of Edmonton . The Archdiocese of Edmonton gave up on July 17, 1948 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Saint Paul in Alberta .
