Esfandiar Rahim Maschaie
Esfandiar Rahim Maschaie , also Esfandiar Rahim Maschai (* 25 Ābān 1399 h. Š . (November 16, 1960) in the village of Maschā Kalāyeh, near Rāmsar , Iran) ( Persian اسفندیار رحیم مشایی, DMG Esfandiyār Raḥīm Mašāyī ), is an Iranian politician. In the Ahmadineschād I cabinet he was Vice President for Culture and Tourism. In July 2009, he was proposed at short notice as First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He is considered a close collaborator, friend and advisor to Mahmoud Ahmadineschād .
Life
Maschaie studied electrical engineering up to a bachelor's degree at Isfahan Technical University . In the early 1980s, Maschaie began his career as an employee of the Sepah secret service in the Iranian province of Māzandarān . He moved to the Iranian province of Kordestān , where he was involved in the suppression of Kurdish rebellions. However, he is attested to having replaced the iron fist policy with a more culture-oriented policy for all security policy issues in the multicultural region. While working in Kordestān he first came into contact with the future President Mahmud Ahmadineschād.
On December 31, 2007, he was appointed director of the newly established National Center for Research on Globalization. His daughter is married to the son of the former Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadineschād .
Vice President for Culture and Tourism
As a minister, Maschaie was accused of deliberately destroying cultural heritage in Iran, in particular by building the Sivand dam in the province of Fars , which threatened the antiquities of Pasargadae , including the tomb of Great King Cyrus II. Iranian cultural workers and archaeologists installed in several appeals to UNESCO on this matter .
Maschaie repeatedly portrayed Iran's relations with the Israeli people as positive. According to the newspaper Kargozaran , he said :
"I had said this before that we do not have any hostility against the Israeli people and I still say the same thing proudly"
"I had already said that our relations with the Israeli people are not hostile, and I still proudly say the same thing."
He also made it clear: "Not all the Israeli people are wearing (military) boots on the street" ( "Not all the Israeli people are wearing (military) boots on the street )". Maschaie refused to withdraw the testimony, even though the chief legal scholar Ali Khamene'i had described the testimony as "illogical".
First Vice President
On July 17, 2009, Maschaie was appointed First Vice-President by President Mahmoud Ahmadineschād . He replaced Parviz Dawudi . The appointment sparked major protests in the conservative camp.
After days of clashes within the government, Chamene'i ordered Ahmadineschād to dismiss Maschaie immediately. After Khamene'i's letter was published on July 24, 2009, in which he described the appointment of Mashaie as "against the interests of the government", Ahmadinejad bowed to the instruction and dismissed his deputy. He then appointed him his office manager and advisor. He was succeeded as First Vice President by Mohammad Reza Rahimi . On December 1, 2012, Maschaie was appointed "Head of the Secretariat of the Non-Aligned States" by President Ahmadineschād; Iran held the chairmanship of the Non-Aligned States at that time. This was seen by analysts as preparation for Maschaie's presidential candidacy for the 2013 elections.
