Scientific name
Euglenozoa
Cavalier-Smith , 1981

The Euglenozoa form a taxon of eukaryotic flagellated Excavata . The Euglenozoa were formerly assigned to the flagellates of the protozoa .

features

Most Euglenozoa are between 15 and 40 µm long and therefore relatively small, but some can grow up to 500 µm. The occurrence of heteromorphic paraxonemalsticks parallel to the axoneme of the flagella is regarded as a decisive synapomorphism of the Euglenozoa . At the molecular level, the appearance of the extraordinary DNA building block beta- D -glucosyl-hydroxymethyluracil (“Base J”) and trans-splicing are characteristic features of the Euglenozoa.

Systematics

Subgroups of the Euglenozoa are:

Distribution and way of life

Representatives of the Euglenozoa are widespread worldwide and very diverse in their way of life. There are photoautotrophic , photosynthesis driving styles , heterotrophic species, parasites and pathogens .
