Eva Bernoulli

Eva Bernoulli (born March 4, 1903 in Berlin ; † June 12, 1995 in Basel ) was a Swiss speech therapist and educator from the Bernoulli family dynasty .

Life

Eva Bernoulli was the daughter of the Swiss theologian and writer Carl Albrecht Bernoulli and his wife Paula Heydenreich. She spent her youth in Arlesheim . At the age of 22 she began training at the drama school in Basel. Bernoulli successfully completed this training in 1928 and was entrusted with the management of the choir at the Basel City Theater .

Four years later, Bernoulli began studying speech therapy in Zurich . After completing this degree, she settled down as a freelance therapist and in 1948 became the first speech therapist in Switzerland. Among other things, she gave speech training courses for teachers and pastors. In addition, she led various amateur theater groups.

Between 1936 and 1940 she worked at the Kammerspiele Bernoulli in Basel. With her speech therapy she did an important job with speech disabilities. On the side, but still very successful, Bernoulli went public with many recitation programs and radio plays. She was also very committed to preserving the Basel dialect . To learn this dialect, she offered special courses for years.

On her 75th birthday, Bernoulli was accepted as an honorary member of the Swiss Society for Phoniatrics and on her 83rd birthday, the University of Basel honored her with the honorary title of Dr. med. hc

Bernoulli supported artists throughout her life and for many years she was a committed member of the Zonta and Lyceums Club .

Eva Bernoulli died on June 12, 1995 in Basel at the age of 92.
