Eva Schweitzer

Eva Claudia Schweitzer (* 1958 in Stuttgart ) is a German Americanist , journalist and book author. She is the recipient of the Theodor Wolff Prize .

Life

Eva Schweitzer went in Upper Bavaria and Oxnard (California) to school and made 1979 the scientific Schyren High School in Pfaffenhofen her high school . She then briefly studied physics at Ludwig Maximilians University , but switched to German , newspaper studies and American studies . After completing her basic studies, she moved to Berlin, where she received her Magister Artium in German at the Free University in 1986 with a thesis on Christa Wolf's novel Kassandra . In 2002 she received her PhD in American Studies. Her dissertation was published as a book in 2003 under the title New York City, Times Square. Urban development, politics and the media .

Even during her studies, she worked for various media, including the daily newspaper , the SFB at the time , the Tagesspiegel , the Berliner Zeitung and the Stern . After years as a freelance journalist, she became an editor at taz in 1992 and in the same year was awarded the Theodor Wolff Prize for her article about a murder in the Berlin building scene at the time of the fall of the wall . From 1993 to 2000 she was an editor at Tagesspiegel in Berlin.

She has lived in New York since 1998 and has been working as the USA correspondent for Die Zeit , the Berliner Zeitung , the Financial Times Deutschland , the Frankfurter Rundschau and Cicero since 2000 . She writes a media-critical blog about America for the daily newspaper .
