The Evangelical Kindergarten Eberswalde was founded in 1832 as the second kindergarten in Brandenburg and is today the oldest still existing kindergarten in the state of Brandenburg . The kindergarten is run by the Evangelical City Church of Eberswalde , located at Pfeilstrasse 27 in the city center of Eberswalde .

history

In February 1832, the preacher and rector of the then city school of Ernst Daniel Martin Kichner set up the first toddler school in the Mark Brandenburg in the Hinterstrasse, now Kirchstrasse, in Neustadt Eberswalde.

"The aim of the small-children-school in Neustadt Eberswalde is to initially raise and raise poor children from numerous families under school age, from the 2nd or 3rd year on, during the working hours of their parents, namely temporarily in the summer half-year."

- Draft statutes, §1

The later statutes of 1867 made the school into the "Infant Care Center in Neustadt Eberswalde", which was located "on Lietze No. 8".

In 1893 the kindergarten moved to its present home in the then newly built house at Pfeilstrasse. 27 with the inscription on the whole front line “Let the little children come to me” ( Mk 10.14  LUT ). At that time, around 100 children were “kept and employed”. By 1934, deaconesses from the Lazarus Deaconess Mother House took over the management of the kindergarten. Due to a state order, the kindergarten should be taken over by the National Socialist People's Welfare . This could be prevented at the time by the priest Johannes Gerloff, who was responsible for the kindergarten.

After 1945 the kindergarten was under the direction of Superintendent Paul Bochow and later of General Superintendent Erich Schuppan . Erika Schmidt and Waltraud Schmidt also shaped the kindergarten. In July 2010 Ms. Elvira Behmler took over the management.

building

The main building is a two-storey masonry house with different-colored facing bricks. As was customary at the end of the 19th century, the street facade is decorated with numerous decorative elements. The storey height is relatively high at well over three meters, the ground floor is higher than the first floor. The basement is only about two meters deep, the blackness flowing by in the immediate vicinity was dammed into a large pond at the time of construction, which took up large parts of today's park on Weidendamm and almost reached the house. The building of the former children's institution is a listed building.

Surroundings

The Eberswalder Stadtforst begins right next to the kindergarten, the urban forest with almost 1500 hectares of area with extensive hiking trails. In front of the kindergarten there is a playground in the Weidendamm park .
