Ewald König (born September 13, 1954 in Vienna ) is an Austrian journalist based in Germany. He is a correspondent, author and moderator.

Life

Ewald König was born and raised in Vienna. He began his journalistic career in 1977 in the Austrian newspaper Die Presse as a police and court reporter, before becoming a member of the foreign policy editorial team and head of the third section.

In 1985 he was sent to Bonn as Germany correspondent . From Bonn he was initially a GDR travel correspondent. He later managed to be the only correspondent accredited in both the FRG and the GDR, which was considered incompatible. He commuted between his offices in Bonn and East Berlin. He witnessed the press conference with Günter Schabowski on November 9, 1989, the fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification, as a journalistic contemporary witness. From 1990 to 1995, König was chairman of the Association of the Foreign Press in the Federal Republic of Germany (VAP), which at that time consisted of around 550 correspondents from 60 countries.

In 2003, König left the press and established himself as a freelance journalist in Berlin. He founded the "Berlin Correspondents Office Ewald König • International Media Projects". From 2009 to 2014 he was also editor-in-chief (from 2011 also publisher) of the European political online medium EURACTIV.de.

König writes correspondent reports, writes books and columns, is a sought-after ghostwriter, is invited by German and foreign TV stations to comment on German, European and global politics, gives readings from his books and mostly moderates European political events.

He is co-moderator of the program “Brinkmann & König” on the Berlin capital broadcaster TV Berlin together with the German journalist Peter Brinkmann . Ewald Koenig's editorial office is based in the house of the Federal Press Conference in Berlin.
