Ewelina Staszulonek

Ewelina Staszulonek (born February 17, 1985 ) is a Polish luge athlete .

Ewelina Staszulonek is a student and lives in Świeradów-Zdrój . She has been sledding since 2000 and has been part of the Polish national team since 2003. Staszulonek made her debut in the Luge World Cup at the race in Igls towards the end of the 2002/2003 season and finished 27th there. In the following season , she only competed in one race. In the 2004/2005 season she competed in all races of the World Cup. In Oberhof she achieved her best position up to that point in 12th place, and there were three more top 15 positions. In the overall ranking, Staszulonek was 14th at the end. In the same place she achieved the same good ranking in 2005/2006 , but overall she achieved less good results. Things went better again in the 2006/2007 season . Already at the start of the season, the Polish woman was able to achieve her best World Cup result so far in Cesana Pariol in fifth place and at the same time her first top ten placement. At Königssee she came eighth, in Altenberg she came in tenth two more times in the top ten. In the overall ranking she was 13th. After Staszulonek had suspended a year, she started the season well in Igls in 2008/2009 as seventh.

Staszulonek's first major event was the 2004 European Luge Championships in Oberhof, where the Pole finished 14th. The following year she competed at the 2005 World Luge Championships in Park City and was 18th in the individual and ninth in the team competition. Staszulonek achieved the same placements at the 2006 European Championships in Winterberg , only in the team competition the placement was one place better. At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games of Turin she came to 15th place. Added to this is a 16th place at the 2007 Luge World Championships in Igls. The high point in the Pole's career so far was her 8th place at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver .
