ExpoCité

ExpoCité ( called Parc de l'Exposition until 1997 ) is a 37-hectare site in the Canadian city ​​of Québec that is used for entertainment, trade fairs and exhibitions . It comprises several buildings in the La Cité-Limoilou arrondissement , near the intersection of Route 138 and Autoroute 973 . The site is the venue for the Expo Québec agricultural fair . ExpoCité is also the name of the company that is commissioned by the city administration to hold the events.

history

The Compagnie de l'exposition de Québec , a private company, acquired the property known as Propriété Gowen in 1898 to hold an annual agricultural fair there. In 1911 the first runway for aircraft was built there. In the same year, the city of Québec bought the site and created the Commission de l'Exposition provinciale . The commission then had permanent buildings erected. It all started with the Hippodrome de Québec racecourse in 1916 , followed by the Industry and Trade Pavilion Pavillon de Commerce in 1923, the Agriculture Pavilion (later the Pavillon de la Jeunesse ) in 1931, and finally the Colisée de Québec multipurpose hall in 1949 .

In 1997 the Center des foires exhibition hall opened . The racecourse was demolished in 2012 to make way for the new multipurpose Center Vidéotron , which opened in September 2015.
