Eyle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eyle are an ethnic minority of hunter-gatherers in southwest Somalia . According to one estimate, their number was 450 in 1981. The origin of this group has not yet been clarified. The Eyle traditionally exchange game products for goods from their Somali neighbors. The Somali civil war since 1991 brought major changes to their situation and way of life.

In 2008 it was reported that around 1,500–2,000 Eyle families with 9,000–12,000 people in four villages in the Shabeellaha Dhexe administrative region were affected by drought and starvation.
