The ship Fährbär has 34 seats as well as a platform for staying outside with bicycle parking space. The solar catamaran ferry, built in 2013, is 18.50 m long and 5.22 m wide.

The ferry line F11 is a ferry connection of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) on the Spree between Baumschulenstrasse in Berlin-Baumschulenweg and the allotment gardens Wilhelmstrand in Berlin-Oberschöneweide . It is one of the oldest still existing ferry connections in Berlin.

history

The ferry had its first trip to the trade fair in 1896. The ferry belonged to the innkeeper of the Spreeschloss that was destroyed in World War II, a restaurant on the Oberschöneweider Ufer. In the 1960s, the private ferry was sold to VEB Fahrgastschifffahrt Berlin (later the White Fleet). Today it belongs to the BVG.

Until December 31, 2013, a ferry with a diesel engine was used on the line, since January 1, 2014 it has been served by a ship with an electric motor ( FährBär ). After a month, the old ferry had to be reactivated for a short time after the electrically powered ship had to pause due to a defect in the bow thruster . At the start of the season of the ferries F21 and F23, which were only used in the summer half-year, at the beginning of April 2014, all four newly purchased electric ferries were in use again.

The ferry service is provided on behalf of BVG, although the ferry is not owned by BVG.

After the completion of the new Minna-Todenhagen bridge , the ferry line was originally supposed to be discontinued at the end of 2017 and the connection should instead be taken over by a bus line over this Spree bridge. After user protests against the termination, the ferry service was initially continued until the end of 2018 and the development of the passenger numbers during this time was monitored. On the part of the Senate, a permanent continuation of the ferry connection at this point in time was considered rather unlikely. However, the ferry will continue to operate in 2019. The approved local transport plan 2019-2023 now provides for the permanent ordering of ferry services for the F11, the parallel traffic to the bus is acceptable with a view to the desirable local recreation and cycling as well as the development of the other residential and allotment areas outside the bus stop catchment areas of the 365 bus line estimated.

use

Figures from 2017 and 2018 on usage can be found in a Senate document in response to a written request.

The ferry line is mainly used for leisure traffic and by a high proportion of cyclists. It is part of the European Cycle Route R1 and also serves to develop the allotment garden colonies on the east side of the Spree.
