Föritz is a district of the municipality of Föritztal in the district of Sonneberg in the Franconian south of the Free State of Thuringia .

Föritz is located on the southern edge of the Franconian Forest . The districts of the former municipality are scattered in a hilly landscape around the Föritz . The districts of Föritz, Rottmar and Gefell are located on the Föritz .

history
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities of Schwärzdorf and Weidhausen were incorporated into Föritz, Eichitz followed in 1957. Furthermore, in 1994 the communities Gefell (with Rottmar), Mupperg (with Mogger and Oerlsdorf) and Heubisch with Föritz merged to form the new unitary community of Föritz .
On July 6, 2018, Föritz was incorporated into the new Föritztal municipality with the communities Judenbach and Neuhaus-Schierschnitz .

Former mayor
After the merger of the municipality of Föritz with the municipalities of Gefell, Mupperg and Heubisch in 1994 until the municipality of Föritztal was founded, the following people were mayors of Föritz:
- 1994–2006: Bodo Groß (FDP), previously mayor of the municipality of Gefell
- 2006–2018: Roland Rosenbauer (CDU)
Economy and Infrastructure
To the west of Föritz there are several industrial areas in which numerous medium-sized companies have settled.

Föritz had a rail connection on the Sonneberg – Stockheim railway line until 1946 , and the place is also on federal road 89 , which leads from Sonneberg to Kronach .
Others
Itzgründisch , a Main Franconian dialect , is spoken in Föritz .
