The leadership theory is a pedagogically prepared system of scientific statements about leadership that are based on the findings of leadership research . This includes the systematic endeavor of science to gain knowledge about leadership. This teaching aims at the presentation of all facts necessary for the understanding of the personal and factual management process.

As a basic task of a leadership apprenticeship, apart from the transfer of the relatively secure leadership knowledge, the visualization and explanation of problems of the social influence between leaders and those being led can be seen. In addition, the leadership theory can provide orientation aids for the concrete design of leadership in operational management practice .

This applies to companies, universities, schools, hospitals, etc. In the police and military, the implementation of leadership teaching is an important factor in successfully coping with all police and military situations . The leadership apprenticeship is taught here from the career of the middle or upper service (sometimes also as a leadership and operational apprenticeship).
