Fabian Sagstetter (born August 13, 1990 ) is a German fistball player in the pass and volleyball player in the position of a libero .

Career

Sagstetter has been playing fistball since he was six. He took 2009 in the period from 16 to 26 July at the World Games 2009 in Kaohsiung in Taiwan as the youngest German national team participate in the fist ball. The German national team took fourth place there. For the German selection, he played on June 2, 2009 in Neu-Isenburg in a 5-2 win against the then reigning world and European champion Austria on the occasion of the German Gymnastics Festival . According to national coach Olaf Neuenfeld , Sagstetter should have shown a particularly good performance at this debut . This was his first official game for the national team, but before that he was allowed to play in Team Germany as part of the Stuttgart Open .

As a fistball player, Sagstetter plays his games for the field and indoor fistball club TV Schweinfurt-Oberndorf . In 2009 he became the first athlete in the club's 147-year history to win a world title. As a volleyball player, he played in the first team of VC Eltmann in the regional league. In the meantime, for reasons of time, he only practices volleyball as a popular sport and supports the 3rd team as far as his time allows. On August 13, 2011, on his birthday, he won the world championship title in front of over 7,500 spectators. This year he was able to add another big title to his collection when he won the World Games with the German national team in Cali (Colombia), South America.

Success in youth

So far, his greatest success has been winning the U-18 World Cup in Swakopmund , Namibia , which he reported in an internet diary in 2009 , and winning the U-18 European Championship in 2006 . At the U-18 European Championship in the following year, his team was again able to achieve a good placement as Vice European Champion. At these tournaments Sagstetter was able to establish himself as a top performer of his team.

With his fistball youth team at TV Schweinfurt-Oberndorf, he also achieved several southern German titles and the runner-up in the German championship.

Private

Sagstetter comes from a family closely related to fistball, so his father and grandfather were already fistball players. He attended the Alexander-von-Humboldt-Gymnasium in Schweinfurt and finished it in 2010 with the Abitur . As advanced courses he chose sports and English. After graduating from school, he did a voluntary social year at TV Oberndorf as a substitute for military service . In addition, his two cousins ​​on his father's side, Jonas and Benedikt Sagstetter, both play professional volleyball in the 1st volleyball league at Hypo Tirol Alpenvolleys Haching (Jonas) and TSV Herrsching (Benedikt).

Honors

On October 25, 2013 he was honored for the World Games title in Colombia by Federal President Joachim Gauck for his sporting success with the silver laurel leaf . During a celebration moderated by Johannes B. Kerner , he received the highest award for German athletes. For re-winning the World Games in Wroclaw ( Breslau ), he was awarded on 13 October 2017 in Berlin for the second time, the Silver Laurel Leaf.
