The CUAS ( en: Carinthia University of Applied Sciences (CUAS) ) is a technical college in Carinthia ( Austria ) for applied science with an international focus. The supporting organization is the "Carinthia University of Applied Sciences - non-profit private foundation".

overview

The Carinthia University of Applied Sciences has been offering around 40 degree programs since the 2009/10 academic year (full-time and part-time bachelor and master’s degree programs). The Carinthian University of Applied Sciences currently operates four locations in Carinthia: Spittal , Villach , Klagenfurt and Feldkirchen . The course takes six (bachelor’s degree) to ten semesters (master’s degree, including bachelor’s degree). In the bachelor's degree, an internship semester has to be completed, which is usually done at an external company (also abroad - internship abroad). Furthermore, semesters abroad are possible at over 120 international partner universities.

The federal government, the state of Carinthia and the local communities are involved in the financing of the private foundation. Further funds flow from membership fees of the association as well as donations and income from events. From the winter semester 2009, no more tuition fees were levied at the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences;

history

In 1993 the “Association of Carinthia Technical Center for the establishment of the technical college” was founded in Spittal an der Drau. Two years later, the University Council approved the first two courses in electronics and civil engineering project management in Spittal. Since September 1996, in addition to the full-time electronics course, there has also been a part-time variant in Villach, where the full-time course was relocated just under a year later. This was followed by further approvals for the telematics / network technology courses in Klagenfurt and municipal management (from 2002: public management) in Spittal a. d. Outside.

In October 2000, three more courses were added: Geoinformation (Villach), Medical Information Technology (Klagenfurt) and Civil Engineering-Building Construction. In the following month, the educational institution previously known as Technikum Kärnten received the official status of a technical college. This was followed in autumn 2001 by the approval of the new human management / health and care management course at the new FH Center Feldkirchen, as well as the opening of the newly established FH locations in Villach (St. Magdalen Technology Park) and Klagenfurt (Technology Park). During the same period, a non-profit private foundation was set up with the aim of securing the future financial security of the technical college courses.

In 2002 two new courses were introduced: Human Management / Health and Care Management and Social Work at the new FH Feldkirchen location. In 2004 the technical courses were converted to the Bachelor / Master system. Newly introduced courses for further education (e.g. mediation) expanded the educational offer.

In 2004 the Public Management course moved from Spittal to Villach; In 2005 the social work and health and care management courses moved to the new building on the main square in Feldkirchen.

Since autumn 2006, the bachelor course “Management” has been offered at the Villach location, since autumn 2007 the English-language master’s course “International Business Management” and since autumn 2008 the bachelor’s course “Mechanical Engineering”.

In June 2007 the term “Technikum” was deleted from the logo and name of the university. Since then, the university has been called “Carinthia University of Applied Sciences”. In May 2009 the foundation was finally renamed “Carinthia University of Applied Sciences - non-profit private foundation”.

Since October 2010, the health courses biomedical analysis, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physiotherapy, radiology technology and midwives have been offered at the Klagenfurt site.

At the beginning of July 2020, Sabine Herlitschka was appointed chairwoman of the supervisory board of the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.

courses

The educational offer is divided into the three main areas of technology, economics and health / social affairs with a total of around 40 full-time and part-time courses, some in English.
