Torch fire

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In fire theory, a torch fire or open jet fire is a fire in which a pressurized gas that continuously escapes from an opening (e.g. pipeline or tank leak) develops into a burning torch after ignition. One also speaks of a large jet of flame .

Because of the high outflow velocities at best, flame lengths of several tens of meters are possible with a torch fire. In addition, it is particularly important as a cause of fire in the vicinity or a BLEVE .
