Farbenfinsternis is the fourth album by the Thuringian dark metal band Eisregen .
History of origin
Roth said in advance that the fourth album, Farbenfinsternis, was to be in some parts the most brutal work to date and that the contrasts would be more clearly worked out after Roth was not entirely satisfied with the previous Leichenlager , as the contrasts were "a little watered down".
Last Episode , the band's record label, was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2001 . The company could no longer pay the studio costs. The album's release date was delayed, but the album was released in the same year. Shortly afterwards the record company went bankrupt. The further course of the career was uncertain at this point. Many music magazines boycotted the band because of the label, which meant that no more ads were printed for the album and the band experienced an internal period of frustration. After a one-year break they started playing concerts again. Not until 2004 did the successor Wundwasser appear on the new record company Massacre Records .

Color eclipses have been indicated in Germany since February 28, 2004 . Reasons for this are texts that, according to the Federal Testing Office for Media Harmful to Young People (BPjM), have a harassing effect, which, according to the BPjM, deal with topics such as cannibalism ( my kingdom come ) and necrophilia ( my dead Russian girlfriend ) in explicit illustration and without criticizing the acts of violence.
In the indexing report, the design of the supplement was also mentioned negatively:
“In the text book itself there is a drawn illustration for each title that visually underlines the content of the text. The depictions are all criss-crossed with depictions of injured or dead, sometimes heavily bleeding human bodies [.] "
Through this and the previous indexing of the album Krebskolonie , the band lost two of their most important works for the German market and suffered a severe financial blow. Several appearances had to be canceled because the band had too few songs to play live. From this point on, the songs of Color Eclipse could only be played in front of an adult audience.
Despite the indexing , the official T-shirt, on the front of which the cover can be seen, can still be sold without restriction in Germany.

My dead Russian friend
The song is about a married man who has sexual contact with a prostitute in a downtown apartment on a warm summer night and bites her throat during the act, but he does not interrupt the act and continues. The refrain with ironic, macabre sentences such as "My mother said, finish what you started" is sung clearly and contrasts with the descriptions of violence and necrophilia; this is the band's first song with clear vocals. He finally conserves the corpse in order to be able to assault it again and again.
The song is mentioned in the indexing report as follows:
“In addition, individual song texts (eg title 01 'My dead Russian girlfriend') contain descriptions of sexual acts with the victims who were cruelly killed. The victims are degraded to the mere object on which the pathological, inhuman strivings of the narrator in the first person are exercised. "
In the realm of carnality
The song is from the perspective of Assassin written who visits a brothel, where he again relaxes before he makes his next victim the next morning on the way. Above all, the contrast between the exercise of physical love and ice-cold murder for money is described:
“Some people die, some people love.
And this is the game we all play here.
I am ready for both sides in the
realm of meat. "
Germany on fire
The song begins with a quote from the classic horror film Dawn of the Dead :
"Quiet please, quiet please! Sometimes one wonders whether the rescue attempts are worthwhile at all. Is it worth saving people? The way I see it, intelligence has already been eradicated and only idiots are still alive. "
The song itself is about a hateful arsonist who moves from town to town at night and sets the houses on fire in order to drag as many people as possible to their deaths. In the end, however, he is caught and kills himself, taking the others with him.
The idea behind the song was to finally rebut the rumors about the band's alleged right-wing extremist attitudes, but this did not work out completely because, according to Yantit's own statement, the band was repeatedly approached by people who understood the lyrics completely differently has been.

The song is about a person who goes to the cemetery on a cold November day to lay flowers on the grave of a young woman. He remembers when he met her, murdered her, drank her blood and threw the body in the river. After remembering this deed for some time, he walks away from the grave of his now thirteenth victim and waits for the next full moon , when he will strike again.
Your blood
In a darkened apartment with no light, the protagonist mourns the loss of his dead girlfriend and tries to put his life on paper in a few words, but not much comes out of it. As the song progresses, it emerges that he killed her himself after chasing her all day.
The intro ("You are looking for death on a clear night ...") comes from the film DellaMorte DellAmore .

Color eclipse cycle
Cape. 1: Harbingers
The protagonist works for a bank. When the first frost arrives, however, he is increasingly plagued by nightmares that make him wake up drenched in sweat and with a face contorted with terror. After all, he also suffers from paranoia during the day, he becomes seriously ill and his condition keeps getting worse. He feels like there's something inside of him. Finally, one morning everything changed. He wakes up in darkness, which is only brightened a little by the candles, as the electrics are going crazy. After all, he is trapped in his house, which he can no longer leave. When he looks out the window, he can't see anything but blackness moving. In his distress he tries to break the window with a hammer, but the glass does not want to break. Desperate, he goes crazy and screams until he passes out. After he wakes up again, he hears voices.
Cape. 2: fear becomes flesh
Long lost track of time, something calls him and he cannot escape the voices. He feels that something is coming into this world and that this something has chosen him to be his messenger in this world. It is born in the basement, a breath of plague blows through the house as a greeting and the temperature in the house continues to drop . The fear of the being from the shadow world is growing and he waits in his vomit and his own sweat for the being that will bring him death.
Cape. 3: shadows in the mind
When he wakes up from sleep , the being that was born into this world in the basement is next to him and looks at him. The being is constantly changing its forms and invading its mind , which it eventually completely obliterates and with it its past. The being speaks to him, but he cannot understand it, so that it finally speaks his language .
Cape. 4: My kingdom come
The being speaks to the protagonist and tells him to peel off his skin, tear out his heart and let his whole life flow into it. In return, the being promises him that he will be first in a new kingdom that will create it, and then others will follow, as will immortality which he will receive for his service.
The refrain “My kingdom come, my will be done” is a modification of the Lord's Prayer , in which the wording “Your kingdom come, your will be done” is.
In the indexing report, the song was mentioned as a representation of cannibalism because of the following passage:

Cape. 5: Color eclipse
The protagonist now does everything that the being has ordered and dies. The color eclipse sets in, the old world is erased and the flesh moon appears in the sky. He receives a new life and moves as a prophet of essence over the country to spread its new religion. In the new kingdom that is emerging, he will be the dust.
A year in the life of death
The song describes a year in the life of death and names events from January to November such as the storm surge in Hawaii, a wildfire in Australia, a flood , a bomb attack , a meltdown in a power plant and similar incidents. December is presented as a summary in the last stanza, emphasizing that every year is full of these calamities:
"December brings the first snow
White it covers all the graves
That what death has created
The old year is nearing its end
A year as there were many before
A year in the life of death ..."
The intro to A Year in the Life of Death comes from the film DellaMorte DellAmore , just like your blood , where it was said by Francesco Dellamorte.
Born Dead
The song is a cover version of the American band Death and thus the only song by Eisregen in English to date.
layout
The cover of the album shows a painted naked woman tied to a wooden frame, whose face is covered with a gas mask . On the back, by the list of titles, you can see a gas mask with a broken window, from which blood is flowing out. In an interview, Yantit said that this time the cover motif was not related to the lyrics. The artist who drew the artwork had the texts and would have thought something about the design. In his opinion, the cover represents more freezing rain itself.
All artwork in the booklet and on the packaging are from the artist Ans de Bruin that the motives for the video storage Leipzig and the cancer makes free - T-Shirt designed. For each song on the album, a graphic background by this artist is printed in the booklet.
