Farrell Dobbs

Farrell Dobbs (born July 25, 1907 in Queen City , Schuyler County , Missouri , † October 31, 1983 ) was an American trade unionist , politician and four-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), a Trotskyist party in the United States.

His father was a worker in the coal industry , the young Dobbs recognized early so that how hard some people have to work for their reward. In 1925 he finished his school career with North High School, during this time Dobbs was still a conservative supporter of the Republicans and their presidential candidate Herbert Hoover .

Dobbs was a presidential candidate for the SWP in 1948 , 1952 , 1956 and 1960 , but was never able to achieve significant success. He saw himself as a student of Leon Trotsky , with whom he was also in correspondence, and James P. Cannon .
