Fathers 4 Justice

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fathers 4 Justice (Eng. "Fathers for Justice"), also called F4J for short , is a lobby group with action groups in Great Britain , the Netherlands , the USA , Canada , Australia , Italy and Sweden . She advocates joint custody , family law reforms and father rights .

A hallmark of the F4J campaigns is that they are always well organized and effectively attract public attention. The actions are often staged as media spectacular and are viewed as militant, although the "Fathers 4 Justice" describe themselves as harmless.

history

2004

In 2004, the six-hour occupation of a balcony at Buckingham Palace by a father disguised as Batman caused worldwide media coverage.

On May 19, 2004, Prime Minister Tony Blair was pelted with condoms filled with purple flour in the House of Commons . The aim of the "guerrilla" campaigns was to draw attention to the situation of fathers, which, from the point of view of the "Fathers 4 Justice", was almost unlawful, and thus to put politicians under pressure to bring about changes in the law in family law .

In May 2004, The Times wrote : "Just 18 months after its creation, this group is the best-known guerrilla advocacy group in Britain".

2005

The group was named "the world's fastest growing interest group" by the BBC in March 2005.

Due to the militancy and criminal offenses of some members, which caused great public displeasure, disputes occurred within the group at the end of 2005. Forty men were withdrawn from membership in the organization at the end of 2005 / beginning of 2006. The immediate cause was a plot by some F4J members to kidnap the then five-year-old son of Prime Minister Tony Blair. The excluded members formed the Real Fathers 4 Justice . You want to be even more radical than founding father Matt O'Connor , who says he runs his organization like a military and not like a democratic organization, but lately he has relied more on negotiations.

In the spring of 2005 the British “Fathers 4 Justice” put up a banner with the slogan “In the name of the father” on the dome of London's St Paul's Cathedral in order to demonstrate what they saw as fairer access rights .

2006

In May 2006, the F4J family law activists managed to place their protest during the live broadcast of the nationwide lottery drawing by the BBC by storming the studio stage from the auditorium right before the broadcast of the Eurovision Song Contest . The BBC then launched an investigation into the security measures in the television studio.

2007

In November 2007, the Fathers for Justice Association was founded in Germany.

2008

On August 15, 2008, the F4J activist Geoffrey Hibbert, dressed as Batman, caused a traffic jam more than 10 miles long in rush hour traffic by climbing the scaffolding for the lane signage on the M25 in the direction of London's Heathrow Airport , holding out for several hours and putting up a protest banner against discrimination in family law practice .

2010

In June 2010, the Bronze Age Uffington White Horse , an important prehistoric ground monument in Oxfordshire ( Vale of White Horse district ), was damaged by being smeared with purple paint. A banner of the F4J was discovered in the immediate vicinity . Spokespersons for the New Fathers 4 Justice as well as the Real Fathers 4 Justice distanced themselves from the act.

2013

In June 2013, an activist sprayed a portrait of Elizabeth II in Westminster Abbey .

Prominent supporters

"Fathers 4 Justice" receives prominent support from Bob Geldof , who even after his divorce from Paula Yates in 1996 until shortly before her drug death in 2000 in a long legal dispute won custody of their three daughters.
