Faustlos is a program for prevention of violence in schools .

The term Faustlos stands for a non-violent approach to conflicts and emotionally difficult situations. In addition to refraining from physical violence, the aim of the program is to treat each other fairly on a verbal level.

The American program Second Step was transferred to German conditions by Manfred Cierpka at the Heidelberg University Hospital . Today Faustlos is looked after by the Heidelberg Prevention Center. Andreas Schick is one of the editors of numerous teaching materials that meanwhile provide age-appropriate content for kindergartens, day-care centers and primary and secondary schools. Behavior in conflict situations is z. B. partly playfully trained or discussed on the basis of pictures.

Young self-confident people who are familiar with different conflict resolution strategies need less resort to violence. Central contents of Faustlos are first of all social skills, such as dealing with feelings or active listening with the fundamental endeavor to lead conflict situations similar to the dispute arbitration program to a constructive solution from which as many as possible benefit ( win-win strategy). In addition to training on better self-perception , the perception of feelings , body language ( facial expressions , gestures , posture , voice ) and the thinking of the other participants are sharpened. This also includes recognizing whether behavior is intentional or accidental. Methodically, u. a. I-messages or impulse control in the case of strong sudden anger (see also irascibility , affect , aggression ) or also trained in anger . The positive effects of Faustlos lead to a fundamental strengthening of social skills , the ability to brainstorm or the security of predicting consequences . The approach assumes that even in childhood, emotional deficits, e.g. B. in the area of ​​compassion and concern for other people, can be caught up afterwards.
