Feng Zhu

Feng Zhu is an American concept designer . He studied architecture at UC Berkeley and industrial design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena .

Feng began his career in 1997 by designing futuristic backdrops for Hollywood films. He then worked in the computer games sector at Origin Systems , now Electronic Arts , in Austin (Texas) , Texas , where he worked as a concept designer for the Wing Commander series.

After a brief stint at GT Interactive Austin Studio, he returned to Los Angeles in 1999 to work for Liquid Entertainment . Here he was the only concept designer responsible for the artistic design (the look) of the game Battle Realms . His work was well received and published in numerous books and magazines.

Since then, his popularity has grown steadily and has brought him further orders from companies such as Blur Studios , Landmark Entertainment , Disney , Sierra Entertainment , MTV , Discovery Channel , Bandai and Universal Studios .

From 2001 he taught courses in industrial design at the Art Center College of Design and the Gnomon School . Feng's courses have gained widespread worldwide recognition, making him a welcome guest speaker at numerous conferences and conventions around the world.

In mid-2002, he was hired to work at George Lucas's new Art Department at Skywalker Ranch on Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith . Feng worked closely with George Lucas for a full year, bringing him new artwork for the film every week . At the same time, he also helped the effects company ILM visualize George Lucas' ideas.

After what he calls “a unique opportunity to work with so many other talented people”, he took on the position of Creative Director at NCSoft , the world's largest developer of online games. There he developed the entire artwork for realizing new games. At the same time he helped to set up a new NCSoft studio in Los Angeles, recruited new designers and helped develop the corporate identity for E3 .

After he returned to film in 2004 and helped James Cameron with his new science fiction film, Feng established himself as a successful freelancer with his studio Feng Zhu Design. His clients include Electronic Arts, Epic Games , Warner Bros. , 3D Realms , Film Roman , Monster Garage , Sony Games , Wacom, and Microsoft .
