Ferdinand Alexander Porsche

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche , called "Butzi" (born December 11, 1935 in Stuttgart ; † April 5, 2012 in Salzburg ), was a German - Austrian industrial designer and the founder of Porsche Design GmbH .

He was the eldest son of Ferry Porsche and a grandson of Ferdinand Porsche and the cousin of Ferdinand Piëch , the former CEO and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen AG .

Life

After a year of primary school in Stuttgart in 1942, the family moved to Zell am See , where Porsche finished primary school. In 1949 the family moved to Stuttgart and Porsche attended the Waldorf School . He began his studies at the Ulm School of Design , which he left after just two semesters. In 1957 he started in the bodywork styling studio at Porsche under its director Erwin Komenda . In 1962, Porsche became Design Director at Porsche. His best-known work is the Porsche 911 , which was still called the 901 when it was presented at the 1963 IAA . The design of the current Porsche vehicles still shows the basic features of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche's design.

In 1972, after family members were excluded from all important positions at Porsche, he founded his own company in Stuttgart, the Porsche Design Studio , with which he moved to Zell am See (Austria) in 1974. Porsche had German and Austrian citizenship. In 1999, the Austrian Federal President awarded him the professional title of Professor .

In 1990 Porsche became Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Dr. Ing.hc F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, FA Porsche was a member of the supervisory board until January 28, 2005, when he was appointed honorary chairman of the supervisory board of Porsche AG. The role was introduced for his father Ferry when he retired from business life. From 2004 Porsche was also Honorary Chairman of the Advisory Board of the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche had three sons, of whom Ferdinand Oliver (* 1961) succeeded his father as a member of the supervisory board.

Ferdinand Alexander Porsche died on April 5, 2012 at the age of 76 in the presence of his family. His grave is in Zell am See , where his urn is buried in the house chapel of the bulk material .
