Ferdinand Fehling

Ferdinand Fehling (born November 11, 1875 in Lübeck , † December 8, 1945 in Waldhilsbach ) was a German historian .

Life

Fehling came from an old Lübeck family. He was the son of Emil Ferdinand Fehling and the brother of the director Jürgen Fehling . After visiting the Katharineum in Lübeck and graduating from high school in Easter 1894, he studied German and history. The doctorate took place in 1900 in Berlin, the habilitation in 1906 in Heidelberg.

He was considered a Prussian specialist and was a. o. Professor of history at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and since 1920 at the Hamburg University . He was the two-time son-in-law of Max Planck : first Grete's husband (* 1889; marriage 1914; † 1917), then twin sister Emma (* 1889; marriage 1919; † November 19, 1919), both of whom gave birth to their daughters died. In 1914 he published poems for military service. In November 1933 he signed the professors' declaration of Adolf Hitler at German universities and colleges .
