Ferenc Kónya , also Franz Kónya (born December 9, 1892 , † March 11, 1977 ) was a Hungarian football player and coach . As a coach, he took part in the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris with the Estonian national football team. In 1922 he was the first supervisor to work as a professional trainer at SV Werder Bremen .

Player career

As a player Kónya was active for the Kispesti AC which was known as Honvéd Budapest from 1926 .

Coaching career

Kónya began his coaching career in Germany in 1921 . His first position was at FV Kaiserslautern, a predecessor club of 1. FC Kaiserslautern . After the 1921/22 season he went to SV Werder Bremen . Kónya was Werder Bremen's first full-time trainer and was financed from the sports teacher fund. Due to financial problems, they separated after two years. In the summer of 1924, Kónya supervised the Estonian national football team at the Summer Olympics ; he was also the first national coach of the association. After the Olympics he found a new job as a club coach with the Italian FC Modena . From summer 1927 to winter 1928/29 he was the coach of FC Luzern in Switzerland. This was followed by three other clubs in the Alpine republic, FC Olten , BSC Old Boys Basel and FC Solothurn, which he looked after in the following years. He later worked in France where he was known as François Konya .
