The Ferndorfbach ( commonly known as the Ferndorf ) in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Siegen-Wittgenstein is an approximately 24 km long, northern and orographically right tributary of the Sieg and thus its longest tributary in the (historical) Siegerland .

geography

source

The Ferndorfbach rises in the southwest of the Rothaargebirge . The Ferndorfquelle is located in the Sauerland-Rothaargebirge nature park southeast above the Hilchenbacher village Oberndorf on the north slope of the 649.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain beech grove at about 602  m altitude; To the northeast is the Wollberg ( 649  m ) near the source . A few meters away from the source in the forest is the Helberhauser Schlag cultural monument (approx.  610  m ) with the nearby Ferndorfquelle barbecue area (approx.  621  m ) and the Rothaarsteig that leads past it . In 2014 the Ferndorf spring was renatured, and redesigned in 2018.

course

Initially, the Ferndorfbach, which runs mainly in a south-westerly direction, flows north-west to and through Oberndorf and then south-west through the Hilchenbach district of Helberhausen . There it takes on the first somewhat larger inflow on the left, the Beche. From then on, the brook flows directly south past the Hilchenbach district of Hadem and, after confluence of the Hadembach, continues through the Hilchenbach core town. There he takes the Langenfelderbach on the right and the Wälderbach on the left. From Hilchenbach the Ferndorfbach continues to flow in a south-westerly direction and in the Allenbach district takes the Insbach on the left and shortly afterwards on the right the Breitenbach, which flows through the Breitenbachtalsperre . Then the Ferndorfbach runs through the districts / locations Hillnhütten , Schweisfurth and Dahlbruch . The Rothenbach, which comes from Müsen and is fed by the Winterbach, joins on the right . Then he leaves the Hilchenbach city area.

The Ferndorfbach then runs through the Kreuztaler urban area between Lohe and Kredenbach and passes the Ferndorf district to the south . There it takes in some small streams, then the Littfe follows on the right in the town center of Kreuztal and the Ferndorfbach turns south. Then he passes the Buschhütten district to the west .

The Ferndorfbach flows from the district of Dillnhütten in the Siegen urban area, in which it is partially overbuilt by the Siegen city motorway, the Hüttentalstraße . Below Dillnhütten, it passes the Geisweid district to the east . There it takes up the Birlenbach coming from the Birlenbach district and runs through the Buschgotthardshütten district of Siegen .

muzzle

The Ferndorfbach flows in the Siegen district of Weidenau about 100 m south-southwest of the indoor swimming pool Weidenau at about 247  m above sea level into the Rhine tributary Sieg, which comes from the north-northeast .

Catchment area, tributaries and drains

The catchment area of the Ferndorfbach, which also includes the catchment areas of the Breitenbach, where the Breitenbach dam is located, the Littfe and the Kleiner Birlenbach, covers an area of 159 km²; this contrasts with the 134 km² of Sieg from its source to the confluence of the Ferndorfbach. In terms of discharge (MQ), the value for the Ferndorf is 3.28 m³ ( Weidenau 2 level ) compared to 2.46 m³ for the Sieg ( Weidenau 1 level ), which is why the Ferndorf, strictly speaking, is the actual upper reaches of the Sieg represents.
