The Heidelberg Telecommunications Tower is a 102-meter (until January 1995: 76-meter) high telecommunications tower owned by Deutsche Telekom and built in 1958 on the Königstuhl in Heidelberg . It serves to distribute radio stations and radio relay . The analog TV channels were discontinued on May 17, 2006 in favor of the digital DVB-T bouquet, which is broadcast by the Heidelberg TV tower .

With the introduction of DVB-T on May 17, 2006, the broadcasting of all analogue TV channels on the Königstuhl was stopped. The broadcasting of the digital DVB-T bouquets from SWR and ZDF takes place from the neighboring Heidelberg television tower , which is operated by SWR (see also DVB-T Rhein-Neckar ). In the immediate vicinity is also the former telecommunications tower of the US armed forces in Heidelberg , which was returned to the state of Baden-Württemberg in mid-2007. The station RNF is only transmitted via cable ( Unitymedia ) and satellite ( Astra ). RTL has announced that the launch of its DVB-T bouquet with the channels RTL, RTL II, Super RTL and VOX in the Rhine-Neckar area and Stuttgart is being considered. However, there is no certainty in this regard, neither about the location that may then be used, nor whether there will be any private involvement of the RTL Group in Rhein-Neckar, Stuttgart or anywhere else in Baden-Württemberg. The Pro7Sat1 group generally refuses to launch a DVB-T offer in the Rhine-Neckar / Stuttgart area. The infrastructure of the former analogue installations in Stuttgart and Heidelberg would make a quick introduction of the private sector possible, no new television towers would have to be built, no new electricity infrastructure would have to be laid and frequencies are available for at least two new DVB-T transponders in Rhein-Neckar and To offer Stuttgart. In the meantime, RTL has announced that it will withdraw completely from DVB-T at the end of 2014.
