Fikret Arıcan (born July 17, 1912 in Istanbul , † 1994 ibid) was a Turkish football player , coach and official. Through his many years of work for Fenerbahçe Istanbul and as a home-grown man, he is very strongly associated with this club and seen by club and fan sites as one of the most important personalities in the club's history. He is one of five players who are named in the official Fenerbahçe march . Since Fikret Kırcan , another younger player of this name, joined the professional Fenerbahçe team in 1935 , Arıcan was henceforth called Büyük Fikret (German: The Big Fikret) - and Kırcan was called Küçük Fikret (German: Little Fikret). He was remembered under this name even after his playing career. He worked as an official of the Turkish Football Association and as a club official or manager of Fenerbahçes. From 1984 to 1986 Arıcan was the club president of Fenerbahçe. This gave him the honor of being a player, coach and president at Fenerbahçe.

Player career

society

Arıcans joined the Fenerbahçe Istanbul youth department when he was twelve . During the 1927/28 season he was also involved in the training sessions of the professional team. That season he was used November 11, 1927 in the game of İstanbul Ligi (German Istanbul League ) against Süleymaniye Sirkeci SK and made his professional debut with this game. Since there was no national professional league in Turkey at that time, regional leagues existed instead in metropolitan areas such as Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir , of which the İstanbul Ligi (also known as İstanbul Futbol Ligi) was considered the most renowned. While Arıcan came to no further league use this season, he was finally included in the professional squad in the 1928/29 season . He quickly won a regular place, was used in eight of a total of ten league games and was the most successful goalscorer of his team with his six league goals. His club ended the season with four points far behind arch rivals Galatasaray Istanbul as runner-up. The following season, the 1929/30 season , Arıcan and his team won this time against Galatasaray and was ahead of this Istanbul champion. This also achieved the first title win in this newly organized league since 1923.

Arıcan played for Fenerbahçe until the summer of 1947, during which time he was involved in some of the most important successes in club history. So Arıcan was five more times with Fenerbahçe Istanbul champion by the end of his career. In the seasons 1934/35 , 1935/36 and 1936/37 three times in a row. This drew level with arch rivals Galatasaray, which was the first club to reach three consecutive championships. He was also part of the Fenerbahçe team that emerged as the winner in the 1936/37 season from Milli Küme , a kind of championship tournament in which the teams of the three cities of Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir participated.

In the summer of 1947, he ended his career at the age of 35, which was unusually high for the time.

National team

Arıcan began his national team career in 1948 with a use in the Balkan Cup game against the Bulgarian national team . By the summer of 1955, he completed seven more games and scored two goals. Since a large part of his active football playing career had fallen into the time of the Second World War , no international matches were played for eleven years and Arıcan was only able to continue his national team career in 1937.

With the Turkish selection, Kırcan took part in the 1936 Summer Olympics.

Coaching career

Arıcan worked for Fenerbahçe Istanbul as a player- coach from 1939 to 1941 . He held the same position from 1945 to 1946. In the 1955/56 season he worked for the third and last time at Fenerbahçe as head coach and this time worked exclusively in this role and not as a player.

Functionary career

Arıcan worked after his playing career at Fenerbahçe Istanbul as a club official and held various offices such as the office of manager. From 1984 Arıcan was elected club president at Fenerbahçe and held this office for two years.
