Filzbach is a former political municipality in the Swiss canton of Glarus .
The municipality was merged with the municipalities of Bilten , Mollis , Mühlehorn , Näfels , Niederurnen , Oberurnen and Obstalden to form the new unified municipality of Glarus Nord on January 1, 2011 as part of the Glarus municipal reform .
geography
The community, a scattered settlement, is located on the high plateau of the Kerenzerberg above the Walensee . The municipality extends from the Walensee to 428 m above sea level. M. up to the Nüenchamm at 1903 m above sea level. M. 35.4% of the community area is agricultural land, 40.9% is forest, 4.6% is settlement area and 19.1% is unproductive.
The campsite Gäsi am Walensee belongs to Filzbach.

In the district elections on June 21, 2006, the FDP received 2 and the SVP 1 seat in the constituency of Mühlehorn - Obstalden - Filzbach.

In addition to local businesses, the school and the municipal administration, Filzbach residents find work primarily in the tourism sector.
traffic
The bus lines from the Näfels - Mollis train station or from the Mühlehorn train station via Stocken and Obstalden connect Filzbach with the SBB route network .
Individual traffic reaches Filzbach from the Niederurnen motorway junction of the A3 motorway via Näfels and Mollis, or from the Mühlehorn junction via Mühlehorn and Obstalden.
The local chairlift Habergschwänd offers a sledging in winter, while in summer is from there the Talalpsee nearby.
history
A Roman watchtower from the time of Emperor Augustus in the Voremwald part of the village was carefully examined in an archaeological excavation in 1959.
The place was first mentioned in 1394 as Vilentzspach .
After the Battle of Sempach in 1386, Filzbach came to Glarus. The inhabitants were Schänis , in Obstalden since the 14th century. The Reformation was adopted in Filzbach in 1528.
Tourism began in Filzbach as early as the 19th century. With the construction of the Walenseestrasse in 1964, it experienced a further boom.
