Firishta

Firishta ( Persian فرشته, actually Muhammad Qasim Hindu Shah , Persian محمد قاسم هندوشاه, DMG Muḥammad Qāsim Hindū-Šāh ; * 1560 in Astarabad on the shores of the Caspian Sea ; † 1620, 1623 or 1626) was a Persian historian . As a child, his father was called from his homeland to Ahmednagar in Hindustan to teach the young prince Miran Husain Nizam Shah in Persian, with whom Firishta studied together.

His history

His most famous work is his Táríkh-i Firishta ( Persian تاریخ فرشته, DMG Tārīḫ-i Firišta , 'History of Firishta'), which he began to write in 1589. The book consists of three volumes and describes the complete history of ancient India, from its beginnings to 1607. The work has also been translated into Urdu . The book has recently been edited and commented on by the Iranian scholar Mohammadreza Nasiri .

It was translated into English by John Briggs (1785–1875).
