First Contact is a 1983 Australian documentary film directed by Robin Anderson and Bob Connolly .

The black and white film describes the first contact between the highland peoples of Papua New Guinea and European researchers in the 1930s. They were actually looking for gold and found a million Papuans who had never had contact with the outside world and with a “civilized society”.
