On December 20, 1935, the city of Lüdenscheid and the Reich Ministry of Aviation signed a contract with details of “the land purchase, road construction, water, gas and electricity supplies and, last but not least, the drainage of the entire barracks area in the separation system. According to the contract, the city waived resident contributions, connection fees, fees and costs for measurements as well as building inspectorate fees. " When the contracts became public in August 1994, the local newspaper Lüdenscheider Nachrichten wrote an article entitled" The Nazis collected Buckesfeld in 1935 "() Construction began in 1935 and the topping-out ceremony was held on October 7, 1936. Six months later they moved into the barracks.

After the war, the barracks were occupied by the Belgian army . However, the population soon established friendly relations with the Belgians, for example the German-Belgian Society was founded. In 1994 the Belgian troops cleared the La Lys barracks . In the 1960s, the Bundeswehr and Transport Battalion 181 were also guests in the barracks area for a few years.
