Flight Design General Aviation GmbH (formerly Flight Design GmbH ) is a German aircraft design company and aircraft manufacturer originally based in Leinfelden-Echterdingen and now in Hörselberg-Hainich near Eisenach .

history

The company began in the 1980 's with the building of hang-gliders and paragliders and 1993 ultralights .

The CT series first flew in March 1996 and entered production in 1997. The aircraft series can be approved in many countries according to the regulations for light aircraft and / or ultralight aircraft and in the USA and the countries where the LSA regulations (Light-Sport Aircraft Rules) apply according to ASTM standards. The original engineering and construction work was carried out in Germany and Ukraine. In order to reduce production costs, a plant for the production and assembly of the aircraft in Ukraine was set up in Kherson .

In February 2011 the company announced that it was developing a four-seat aircraft called the C4, which made its maiden flight in spring 2015.

The company filed for bankruptcy in February 2016.

In July 2017, the organization with the production facility in Kherson and all rights to the CT series (CTSW, CTLS, CTSL Supralight, CTLSi, CTLE) were taken over by the newly founded Flight Design general aviation with the main shareholder Lift Air from Eisenach. Since then, the company has been based at Kindel Airport near Eisenach . This is where the final inspection takes place and the engineering management is located. Daniel Günther is the new managing director.

At the AERO Friedrichshafen in April 2019, the newly organized company presented prototypes of two new models, the F2 and the F4. The F4 will be a four-seat aircraft powered by a Rotax 915iS turbo engine, while the F2 will be a two-seat aircraft whose modular structure includes a future electric aircraft variant called the F2e. A flying prototype of the F2e was also presented at Aero 2019.
