Florence Green

Florence Beatrice Green , née Patterson , (born February 19, 1901 in Edmonton , London , † February 4, 2012 in King's Lynn ) was the last known living person who was one of the veterans of the First World War . She served in the Women's Royal Air Force (WRAF), a women's branch of the Royal Air Force (RAF).

Life

Florence Green joined the Women's Royal Air Force on September 13, 1918 at the age of 17. She served as an orderly in the officers' mess of the military airfield RAF Marham in Norfolk , where the 59th squadron of the RAF was stationed, and at the military airfield in Narborough, also in Norfolk. She was not involved in combat operations.

Green lived in King's Lynn. From her marriage in 1920 to railroad worker Walter Green, who died in 1970, she had two daughters and a son. She lived in her eldest daughter Mary's house.

Since the death of Claude Choules on May 5, 2011, she was the only known survivor of the First World War.
