Focus Features is an American film production and distribution company .

history

Universal acquired and merged in June 2002 the Indie - film studios USA Films and Good Machine . The established production , marketing and distribution of USA Films was supplemented with the management and international distribution partners of Good Machine . The management of the newly founded Focus was transferred to James Schamus and David Linde ( Good Machine ), who after the merger enforced their resistance to planned redundancies.

Focus focuses primarily on the US - hire of foreign films and could with hits like Swimming Pool , The Pianist , Lost in Translation and House of Flying Daggers great success to celebrate. The production of independent films , however, was crowned with less laurels. After the flops of Obsessive and Vanity Fair , Forget My Not! prevail with criticism and audience. Already in 2006 was the focus for 16 Oscars nominations, after which David Linde in the Universal changed -Vorstand and Schamus since President of the company.

Focus has offices in London , Los Angeles , New York City and Paris . After only five years of existence, Focus is one of the most prominent indie companies alongside Miramax and Lions Gate .
