Fort Carlton was a trading post of the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) between 1810 and 1885 and was located on the territory of what is now the Canadian province of Saskatchewan , 65 km north of Saskatoon on the North Saskatchewan River .

The fort was on the Carlton Trail between Fort Garry in what is now Manitoba and Fort Edmonton in what is now Alberta . It served the HBC fur traders as a resting place on the way to the Canadian Rockies and pemmican and buffalo hides were traded.

In 1885, during the Northwest Rebellion , Fort Carlton was abandoned as a result of the Battle of Duck Lake and burned down a little later.

Today Fort Carlton has been partially rebuilt and is open to visitors as the Provincial Historic Park .
