Fort Gibson is a town in Cherokee County and in Muskogee County in the US -amerikanischen State Oklahoma with 4,054 inhabitants (2000).

Fort Gibson is home to the Fort Gibson National Cemetery and Museum Fort Gibson Historical Site in the reconstructed former US fort named after a Colonel George Gibson . He headed the Army Commissary Department , which organized the Cherokee Trail of Tears .

Fort Gibson, founded in 1824 by Colonel Matthew Arbuckle , is the oldest city in Oklahoma and is located in the east of the state.

The urban area today covers 36.3 km².
