Photographer agency

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A photographer agency or photographer representative is a company that mediates the services of photographers .

In contrast to photo or picture agencies , photography agencies do not convey the works of photographers, but their services; comparable to artist agencies or model agencies . In addition to the actual tasks as photographer agencies - the placement of photographers and their customers (appointments, contracts, image rights, etc.), public relations and advertising for the photographer - many also work as image agencies for their photographers.

Photography agencies work mainly on a commission basis, with this commission mostly (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) being collected from the photographer and more rarely (as is common with artist agencies, for example) also from the customer.

Types of ties between the photographer and the photographer agency:

  • Exclusive : all of the photographer's jobs are handled by the agency.
  • Semi-exclusive : The photographer only employs one photography agency, but only the orders placed by the agency are managed and charged by the agency.
  • Non-exclusive : The photographer is free to be represented by several agencies or platforms.

Both exclusive and semi-exclusive bindings can be regionally limited.
