François Dompierre
Joseph Eugène Frédéric François Dompierre (born July 1, 1943 in Ottawa ) is a Canadian composer.
Dompierre had piano lessons in Ottawa with Hélène Landry and Noëlla Vaillancourt and organ lessons with Paul Larose . From 1959 to 1964 he studied at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec with Françoise Aubut , Clermont Pépin and Irving Heller .
First, Dompierre was known as a singer-songwriter . After an appearance on the TV station CFTM, the LP François Dompierre was created in 1963 . His songs were u. a. Sung by Julie Arel , Pierre Calvé , Christine Charbonneau , Renée Claude , Emmanuelle , Louise Forestier , Claude Gauthier , Pauline Julien , Félix Leclerc and Monique Leyrac . In 1965 he composed and produced the album Il y eut un jour with Stéphane Venne . In 1969, based on a libretto by Michel Tremblay, the musical comedy Demain matin, Montréal m'attend was created .
In 1974 his sonata for Ondes Martenot and piano was premiered and recorded by Sylvette Allard and Théodore Parasquive . From 1975 he worked with Félix Leclerc , for whom he wrote the instrumentation of three albums.
After studying in Paris from 1976–1977, he composed for Claude Garden Harmonica Flash for harmonica and orchestra. In 1978 he conducted a CBC television program with the Orchester symphonique de Montréal and the soloists Édith Boivin-Béluse (piano), Jean-Marie Benoît (guitar), Michel Donato (bass guitar), André Proulx (violin) and Richard Provençal (drums) the first performance of his Concerto in A . Both works were in 1979 with the same team under the baton of Charles Dutoit at the Deutsche Grammophon recorded.
With the album Hors d'oeuvres Dompierre won a Félix Award for instrumental music in 1982 . His Concerto for Violin and Orchestra by Angèle Dubeau was premiered at Expo 86 in Vancouver . He also composed the music for the fireworks on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the founding of Montreal.
In addition, Dompierre wrote a large number of film scores.
