history

In 1947 Paris-Inter was launched as the third program of the Radiodiffusion française (RDF). Programs from the Club d'Essai as well as music with a focus on jazz and programs from foreign stations could be heard there . At the beginning, the program could only be received in Paris, but the range was gradually expanded to all of France in the 1950s through additional channels.

The program was renamed France 1 in 1957 . From now on, broadcasting took place around the clock, with the focus on information programs. In 1963 the station was merged with France 2-Régional and was given its current name after a listener survey when the Maison de la Radio opened . A year later, France Inter was incorporated into the newly founded public service broadcaster ORTF , which existed until Radio France was founded in 1975.

In 1965 the first Pop Club was broadcast, an evening show that was presented by José Arthur for 40 years. In May 1968, the ORTF broadcasters went on a general strike that only ended at the end of June.

On December 31, 2016 at 11:59 p.m., the broadcast via the long-wave transmitter in Allouis was set to 162 kHz.
