Francesco Pennisi (composer)

Francesco Pennisi (born February 11, 1934 in Acireale , † October 8, 2000 in Rome ) was an Italian composer.

Pennisi studied music and painting in his youth. He was a student of the American composer Robert W. Mann in Rome . After his compositions first attracted attention in 1962 at the Settimane Internazionali di Nuova Musica in Palermo, they were also performed at the Venice Biennale , the Biennale des Jeunes in Paris and the Reconnaissance des musiques modern in Brussels.

At this time he also founded the Nuova Consonanza society with Franco Evangelisti , Aldo Clementi and Daniele Paris in Rome . In 1972 his first stage work Sylvia simplex (ornitoscopia) was performed at the Venice Biennale , which was followed by others. In addition, he composed drama music, orchestral and chamber music works, vocal music and works for solo instruments.
