Franjo Dugan

Franjo Dugan (born September 11, 1874 in Krapina , Austria-Hungary , † December 12, 1948 in Zagreb , Yugoslavia ) was a Yugoslav composer.

Dugan studied mathematics and physics in Zagreb and then at the University of Music in Berlin . After teaching in Zagreb and Osijek , he became a teacher at the Music Academy and cathedral organist in Zagreb.

In addition to an andante for orchestra, he composed four string quartets , a sonata for violin and piano, organ pieces and piano music. Dugan inventoried the Croatian folk songs and composed piano songs and choral works on the basis of these folk tunes. His choral songs became an integral part of the repertoire of Croatian choral societies.

After his death he was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb .
