action

On audio track 1, the speaker tells his life story. On track 2, the same speaker enumerates things. The speaker has been collecting images that appeal to him over the past few years. These are usually recorded as collages in line with the life story told and the enumerations in rapid succession.

Soundtrack 1: The speaker, who introduces himself as Frank Mouris, was born in Florida as one of five children. The family belonged to the middle class , the parents worked hard and the standard in the house rose steadily. Even as a child Frank loved food because you can first look at it and then eat it. He loves animals and has always had pets or at least one favorite elephant in the zoo. At school his favorite time was lunchtime, when he could peek curiously into his lunch box to see what he would have for lunch. As a child he wanted to work at his father's gas station , in his youth he wanted to do everything else, just not work at the gas station. He mostly fell in love with girls very stubbornly and planned in his youth to become a fashion designer or make- up artist , as he could have “shaped” women that way. Frank went to college where he went from being an outsider to being a sociable person. He now wanted to become a teacher, but studied architecture and eventually graduated as a graphic designer. He found his calling as an animation filmmaker and hopes to be successful with it.

Sound track 2: The speaker counts down from 1972 to 1944 and stops at September 6, 1944, the birthday of Frances Peter "Frank" Mouris. This is followed by lists: family members, saints, popes, Christian holidays and other things that are indirectly or directly related to the life story told, including mainly words beginning with "F" such as " François Truffaut " or when looking at future work and desired successes Sequence “fame, fortune, festivals, flags”. The list ends with the years 1944 to 1972 and the credits .

production

The animations consist of 11,592 newspaper clippings that have been combined in collages and played back in fast motion. Both sound tracks of the film run at the same time. The speaker on both audio tracks is director Frank Mouris, the soundtrack is from Tony Schwartz .

Awards

Frank Film won the Oscar in 1974 in the category “ Best Animated Short Film ”. The film received the Grand Prix at the Festival d'Animation Annecy in 1973. In 1996 Frank Film was listed as "particularly worth preserving" in the National Film Registry .
