Frank Finlay
Frank Finlay (born August 6, 1926 in Farnworth , Lancashire , England - † January 30, 2016 in Weybridge , Surrey ) was a British actor .
Life and accomplishments
Frank Finlay had English, Irish, and Scottish ancestors. He graduated from the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art . He played his first television roles in the early 1960s. For the role of Iago in the film drama Othello (1965) (after the Shakespeare play of the same name) Finlay was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe Award in 1966.
In the adventure film The Three Musketeers (1973) by Richard Lester , he appeared alongside Oliver Reed , Raquel Welch , Richard Chamberlain and Michael York in the role of Porthos . He took the same role in the sequel The Four Scoundrels of the Queen from 1974. This film was made with its predecessor in a single schedule , but the actors were only paid for one film, which also caused displeasure with Finlay.
He was nominated for a BAFTA Award in 1983 for the role in the drama The Return of the Soldier (1982), in which he starred alongside Julie Christie , Alan Bates and Ian Holm . In the SF horror film Lifeforce - The Deadly Menace (1985) he starred alongside Steve Railsback and Peter Firth , in the adventure film King of the Winds (1989) he appeared alongside Richard Harris . In the film drama The Pianist (2002) by Roman Polański he played his father Szpilman .
Finlay played the title role Van der Valk in the ARD ( Van der Valk and the girl , October 1972; Van der Valk and the rich , December 1973; Van der Valk and the dead , June 1975). His work includes more than 120 film and television productions.
Finlay was a member of the British Catholic Stage Guild . He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
Frank Finlay was married and had three children.
