Frank Starke received his doctorate in 1976 with the thesis "The functions of the dimensional cases and adverbs in Old Ethite" at the University of Marburg . In 1987 the habilitation at the University of Frankfurt am Main took place with the thesis "Investigation of the stem formation of the cuneiform Luwian noun" . Starke is primarily concerned with the Luwian and Hittite languages as well as the history of Anatolia in the 2nd millennium BC. Chr. Starke is of the opinion that he has provided evidence of equating the city of Ilion (Troy) with the city of Wilusa, which is known from cuneiform texts . However, this allocation continues to be controversial and was hotly debated in the context of the Troy debate at the beginning of the 21st century. Starke currently teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Tübingen .
