Franklin mayor
Franklin Schultheiß (born December 18, 1928 in Oberlind , Thuringia; † May 3, 2006 ) was a German social economist. From 1974 to 1992 he was managing director of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb).
Life
Schultheiss was drafted as an air force helper in 1944. In 1946 he joined the Social Democratic Party of Germany . After graduating from high school (1947) he studied philosophy and economics at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . In 1949 he was sentenced to a prison sentence by a Soviet military tribunal for connection to the East Office of the SPD in Hanover , which he served in the Bautzen correctional facility , in the Waldheim correctional facility and in Torgau. When he was released in 1956, he fled to West Germany .
There he continued his studies at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . In 1960 he obtained a degree in social economics from the University of Social Sciences in Wilhelmshaven. He then became a consultant for political education at the SPD party executive in Bonn. In 1967 he took over the management of the general planning department of the Federal Agency for Civic Education. After he was briefly director of bpb, he became managing director in 1974.
He was also a member of the Inner Leadership Advisory Board and the Foundation for Former Political Prisoners, as well as the Military and Social Sciences working group .
His estate is in the archive of social democracy .
