Franz Joseph Maria Leopold Anton Carl Aloys Viktor Wolfgang Bonifacius 6th Prince of Isenburg and Büdingen (from 1913 his title was Prince of Isenburg ; born June 1, 1869 in Birstein , † September 15, 1939 in Frankfurt am Main ) was head of the noble house Isenburg and Büdingen in Birstein , officer, Prussian and Austrian lieutenant colonel, 1915–1918 head of the German military administration in Lithuania.

He was the son of Prince Karl zu Isenburg-Birstein (1838-1899) and his wife Archduchess Maria Louise of Austria-Tuscany (1845-1917), the daughter of Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany (1797-1870) and his wife Maria Antonia of Naples-Sicily (1814–1898).

Life

Head of the German military administration of Lithuania in 1915. 1901–1918 member of the Prussian mansion, 1902–1918 member of the First Chamber of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, 1912–1919 member of the municipal assembly of Kassel and Hesse-Nassau, 1915 1st adjutant to the head of administration of Russian Poland , then head of administration of Lithuania, 1921 member of the State Office for Family Goods. According to Professor Wolfgang Stribrny , in a historical treatise on the Princely House of Isenburg, Prince Franz Joseph is said to have enjoyed "unusual popularity" . However, other sources also say that he governed very strictly in Lithuania , which is why he was replaced as head of the local administration in 1918.

From 1896 the prince was married to Princess Friederike zu Solms-Braunfels (1873-1927), daughter of Prince Hermann zu Solms-Braunfels . Franz Joseph and Friederike had seven children:
