Franz Bachelin

Franz Nicholas Bachelin (born November 10, 1895 in Sinsheim , † May 26, 1980 in Pacific Palisades ) was a German-French film architect in Hollywood .

Live and act

Franz Nicholas Bachelin was a member of an air squadron during the First World War . After his release from civilian life, he studied architecture before emigrating to the USA via Cuba in 1928 .

In 1937 he was hired by the production company Paramount in Los Angeles as a film architect. Until the mid-1940s, Bachelin was only involved in smaller productions. Afterwards, mostly in collaboration with a colleague, he set up some well-known films, including various Wilhelm Dieterle productions, some Dean Martin / Jerry Lewis comedies and film adaptations of historical, biblical and literary films such as War and Peace , “ Rulers of the Seas "And" The Book of Ruth ".

In later years Bachelin had also worked for television. In the mid-1960s, as one of several architects, he was responsible for the decorations for the television series Batman and in this capacity was also involved in the theatrical version, Batman Keeps the World in Suspense , his last film.
