Franz Fuchs (historian)

Franz Fuchs (born November 8, 1953 in Wörth an der Donau ) is a German historian .

After graduating from the Johannes-Turmair- Gymnasium in Straubing , Fuchs studied history, German and social studies at the University of Regensburg from the 1974/75 winter semester . Franz Fuchs was assistant to Horst Fuhrmann's chair at the University of Regensburg and later to Karl-Friedrich Krieger's chair at the University of Mannheim . In the winter semester 1986/87 he received his doctorate on the subject of the medieval library of the Augustinian canons of St. Mang in Stadtamhof , Regensburg under Horst Fuhrmann.

Fuchs was on the subject of Hans Pirckheimer at the court of Emperor Friedrich III. (1458/59) completed his habilitation in the summer semester of 1993 and was appointed university lecturer in Mannheim on October 1, 1993. He took over representations at the University of Heidelberg (winter semester 1993/94) and after receiving an appointment in 1995 at the University of Regensburg . On August 1, 1995, Fuchs was appointed C-3 Professor for Medieval History and Historical Auxiliary Sciences at the University of Regensburg. In the summer semester of 2002 he was offered a professorship for Medieval History and Historical Auxiliary Sciences at the University of Würzburg as successor to Peter Herde . He has been retired since the winter semester 2019/20.

His main research interests are Renaissance and humanism research, the history of Regensburg and Nuremberg in the late Middle Ages, and epigraphy . Fuchs is considered one of the best experts on the time of Frederick III. He is chairman of the Willibald Pirckheimer Society for Research on Humanism and the Renaissance and editor of the Pirckheimer Yearbook .
